In line with current guidance from the British Medical Association (BMA), our practice does not issue “fit to fly” certificates. Medical professionals are not in a position to guarantee a patient’s fitness for future travel, as this falls outside the scope of standard clinical assessment and carries medico-legal implications.
If necessary, we can provide a summary of relevant medical information from the patient’s records. This summary is not a certification of fitness to fly and should not be interpreted as such.
We strongly advise patients to check with their airline or travel provider regarding their specific requirements for travel, as policies may vary. Airlines may request a Medical Information Form (MEDIF) or other documentation, and the final decision to allow travel rests with the airline’s medical advisors.
